This year was the twentieth year for FISH. (Forum for Indiana Subjects in Healthcare)! After the conclusion of FISH XIX in the Bahamas, we decided to hold the celebration of FISH XX at one of our favorite spots between the East and Northeast entrances to Yellowstone National Park in the spectacular Sunlight Basin. We lodged ourselves at the 7D Ranch off the Chief Joseph Highway and fished a wide variety of waters including the many small streams that flow through Sunlight Basin including Hoodoo Creek, Crandall Creek, Sunlight Creek and the main Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone.
In addition to the local fishing, each day we took groups to Yellowstone Park and fished Slough Creek, the Lamar River and Soda Butte Creek. The cutthroat trout fishing was superb, challenging and always with the stunning backdrop of the Hayden Valley. Members of FISH saw grizzly bear, fox, antelope, bison and our fearless leader, Terry Heath, saw two wolves on his last day. These two wolves walked right in front of him. One was black, one was gray and for those of us who live in Wyoming and Montana and yet have never seen a wolf (or if we have, it has been from quite a distance), all we can say is "geez!".
We also took groups each day for float trips on the Shoshone River west of Cody. Our perfect fall weather only enhanced the experience as this river must be one of the most beautiful floats in North America. The 18-21" 'bows and cuttbows didn't hurt either.
Yes, the fishing was amazing and I want to thank the guides from the 7D: Chay and Tom, as well as Stuart Dominick, who did such an amazing job getting everyone on fish in the Sunlight Basin area. I also especially thank the guides from Bozeman. You guys were wonderful, professional and very knowledgeable. To Sean, Tracy, Tim, Craig, Robert, Chad and Jeff, you guys are the best and you proved it over and over whether on the Shoshone River, the creeks of Sunlight Basin or in Yellowstone Park.
To the 7D staff... what a wonderful job you did. The food was outstanding, the ambiance so very friendly and the organization perfect.
And to all the FISHophiles... thanks foe a wonderful trip. I had so much fun with all of you and I even learned a few things.
"You can't be 1/2 way three times!"
"Better is the enemy of good!"
"Close you car door!"
and don't let your expectations exceed your skill levels!
Many thanks again to all of you!
