Cuba Fly Fishing Trips

Cuba has earned its place among the world’s premier saltwater fly-fishing destinations. Expansive, unspoiled flats stretch for miles, supporting thriving populations of bonefish, permit, and tarpon. It’s a rare glimpse of the Caribbean as it once was – healthy, protected, and remarkably untouched.

This fishery exists today because of a forward-thinking conservation framework. More than 150 Marine Protected Areas safeguard over a quarter of Cuba’s marine shelf, with strict limitations on commercial fishing and a universal catch-and-release ethic for visitors. The result is one of the most biologically intact saltwater ecosystems in the Western Hemisphere.

Travel to Cuba for these programs is conducted in accordance with regulations administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), specifically under authorized categories such as “Humanitarian Projects” (31 CFR § 515.575). These trips are structured with purpose – supporting community-based conservation, engaging directly with Cuban citizens, and promoting the sustainable use of marine resources.

All programs are operated in partnership with independent guides, privately run, non Cuban businesses, as well as an assortment of non-governmental organizations. No services involve Cuban government entities or state-run accommodations. In keeping with industry requirements, all Cuba-related bookings and payments are handled separately from standard online checkout systems.

Anglers can experience Cuba through two distinct formats:

  • Land-based lodges offering comfort, cultural immersion, and access to productive nearby flats
  • Live-aboard motherships providing mobility and entry to remote, lightly pressured fisheries

Beyond the fishing, Cuba offers a rich cultural landscape shaped by music, history, and a strong sense of community. Each trip combines exceptional angling with meaningful engagement – delivering an experience that is not only memorable, but thoughtfully and responsibly executed.
